Quartzite

Quartzite is a metamorphic rock formed when quartz-rich sandstone or chert has been exposed to high temperatures and pressures.

Homeowners rave about quartzite because it's so resistant to destruction, that there's no need to worry about etching, scratching, or staining. Since it's naturally heat resistant, hot pans won't have any effect on its surface, either.
